Introduction - Viewing a Word Document
Word files are handled slightly differently depending on your web browser. Two of the most common web browsers are:
- Internet Explorer
- Netscape
Other web browsers are
- Firefox
- Safari
Step 1 - Viewing in Internet Explorer
To view a Word document in Internet Explorer:
1. Click the link of the document file you want to view (see an example of a list of files below)
2. The Word document should automatically open in your web browser.
If your version of Internet Explorer DOES NOT open the document, you may be asked to save the Word document onto your hard-drive.
3. If this occurs the SAVE AS window will appear:
- Choose a location on your hard-drive to save the file
- Remember the file name and the location you are saving the file to
- Click the SAVE button
The Word file will now download onto your hard-drive. You can now open the file in MS Word.
Step 2 - Saving a Word Document
To save a Word document from the web browser onto your computer hard-drive.
- Go to the FILE menu of your web browser
- Select SAVE AS
The SAVE AS dialogue box will appear:
3. Choose a location on your hard-drive to save the file
4. Click on SAVE
The Word file will now download onto your hard-drive. You can now open the file in MS Word.
Step 3 - Open the File with Microsoft Word
Once you have saved the Word document (as above):
1. Locate the downloaded Word document on your hard-drive
2. Double-click the file name to launch it in MS Word
Troubleshooting
If this error occurs:
Click the SAVE FILE button
Follow Steps 4 & 5 as mentioned above.
