What is a PDF File?
Some of the attachments on the this website are provided in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF).
This file format makes it possible to publish documents from a wide variety of sources without having to manually re-create each page for the Internet. This allows us to provide more content, faster, and at lower cost.
Note: Adobe, Acrobat, and Reader are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Adobe Systems Incorporated in the United States and/or other countries.
To view, search, and print these documents, you need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™ software.
Most computers already have this software installed. If yours does not, you can download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader FREE from the Adobe website (see Step 1 & 2 below) or click on this icon .
Step 1 - Download Adobe Acrobat Reader
To download the Adobe Acrobat Reader:
- Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
- Follow the instructions on the Adobe website to download Acrobat Reader
- Wait for the FILE DOWNLOAD dialogue box to appear:
4. Select "Save this program to disk"
5. Click on OK
The SAVE AS dialogue box will appear (as below):
6. Save the .EXE file to your hard-drive
The Download Progress screen will indicate how long it will take to download the installation file.
Step 2 - Install Adobe Acrobat Reader
Once you have downloaded the Adobe Acrobat Reader installation file onto your hard-drive:
Double-click the file to begin installation (e.g. rp505enu.exe)
Follow the prompts to install Adobe Acrobat Reader
Note: Once you have downloaded and installed Adobe Acrobat Reader, any PDF document will usually launch directly within your web browser once you open the file from the VGPB website.
You may be asked to restart your computer before you can view PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Step 3 - Viewing a PDF File
To view a PDF document on this website:
1. Click on the PDF document link you want to view (see below for an example of text containing a PDF file)
The PDF document should automatically open in your web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Safari):
Step 4 - Saving a PDF File
Once you have the PDF document open in your web browser:
1. Click the SAVE icon within Adobe Acrobat Reader (top left of menu bar).
The SAVE AS dialogue box will appear:
2. Find a location on your hard-drive to save the PDF file
3. Click the SAVE button
The PDF file will now download onto your computer hard-drive. You can now open the file with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Troubleshooting
1. Trouble INSTALLING or USING Acrobat Reader?
Visit the Adobe support page: http://www.adobe.com/support/main.html
2. Trouble DISPLAYING PDF DOCUMENTS in your web browser:
Right-click on the document link (click and hold on Apple Macintosh)
Save the file to your hard drive
Open the PDF file from your hard drive by double-clicking it
3. Trouble PRINTING a particular document?
Select PRINT AS IMAGE when your system displays the print options window
4. Upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat Reader?
Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
Note: Using older versions of Acrobat Reader may cause problems viewing PDF documents within a web browser.
